Siemens Gamesa signs first local supply deals in Taiwan
Swancor and CS Wind/Chin Fong lined up for Formosa and Yunlin developments
OEM Siemens Gamesa hailed a landmark moment for its emerging Taiwanese offshore wind operation as it signed its first deals with local component suppliers.
Under the agreements, Swancor will supply resin for the blades destined for the 120MW Formosa 1 phase two project, while a joint venture between CS Wind and Chin Fong will deliver fully-localised towers for Wpd’s 640MW Yunlin development.
Taiwan is introducing a phased local-content programme as it expands its offshore wind base towards its target of 5.5GW by 2025.
Niels Steenberg, executive general manager of Siemens Gamesa Offshore for Asia-Pacific, said: “CS Wind is a strategic partner of SGRE globally, delivering wind turbine towers to numerous projects around the globe. We strongly believe in the combination of their specialist knowledge with Chin Fong’s skills and strong local connection in Taiwan.
“Together, they have a great location to serve most of the Taiwanese offshore projects, doing so at an attractive price level with a fast start of production. We will be well-prepared for the future local content requirements for towers when they become effective in 2021.”
